Lovely place to have a relaxing time bird watching or go for a pleasant walk.
Blashford lakes is a great little nature reserve. Bird hides aplenty, woodland, streams, reclaimed gravel pits and a variety of open spaces offer a wide scope of experiences. Staff are brilliant with all ages.
Amazing place almost on my doorstep but had no idea what was there. Lots and lots of diverse birdlife. Don't forget your binoculars!
Blashford is abolutely lovely & I visit often all year round for the beautiful walks and especially the birds. Unfortunately it was impossible to get a seat or even a standing space to see the birds from Tern hide today as there are a couple of rarely seen species on the lake at the moment. I'll be back nearer spring when things are calm again. :)
There's so much to see and do here... if you can find it! We're not local but were holidaying in the New Forest and wanted a wooded walk and an opportunity to see some wildlife but the signposting is poor. Perhaps that's the 'cunning plan' as it was quite and peaceful. I suppose you could call it a 'hidden gem'! There are plenty of well signposted trails once you're in but wellies or walking boots are a must! The bird hides are well positioned and there was plenty to see even in winter. Best of all, it's all free (although donations are encouraged).
